So WTF is up with this 10 entries per page crap? I would rather have back the 20 we previously had or even better, like 50! Is there any way to fix this? Because I have no clue, and I've tried to figure it out.
I've been a bit busy lately, and have not kept current on my fist. So tonight I couldn't even go back as far as mid-August, and I'd wanted to see back to the beginning of July to make sure I'd caught it all. But it was not to be. Dammit...
This last thing isn't really recent, but it's been bugging the shit outta me for like over a year. In posts with links, LJ will covertly add mouseover code. I go in and remove it, and it always gets put back! I like to have clean, lean and mean code, and this crap totally interferes. I want it to stay gone for good; anybody out there know how to achieve this?
OK, enough bitchin' for now. I just had to get that off my chest...
Do you think the public has a legitimate right to know about a politician’s personal/romantic life? When, if ever, do you think a politician’s personal history is relevant to his/her ability to perform in office?
I generally don't give a rat's arse what any person in the public eye does when in private. It's not really any of our business. If they want to be a jackass and cheat on the person they are with, well that's between all of them. And I don't think their personal actions have any bearing on whatever job they do. When will the madding crowd just BUTT OUT of everyone else's life? Probably never, I bet...
Me? I've got better and more interesting things to do and think about, than some politico's/celeb's private activities. Just. Don't. Care.
Now pardon me while I reposition my mind to where I prefer it to be. :-)
Shortly before 6:30 this morning, my 17 year old cat Jinx took her last breaths. We knew she'd been going downhill for months now, and that the end was coming eventually. But to be there right at that moment, and to hear her cries that I'm sure were of pain... Dam, it nearly killed me.
Tomorrow I have to dig a blasted hole in the back yard. At least this time I will have a shovel, unlike when we buried her mother Oreo in Jan 2007. (All I had then was BBQ tools and a dustpan! Only months later did we find the shovel.)( Collapse )
Sheesh... if only I'd just waited a couple hours it finally went through. All that bitchin n moanin and *poof* there ya go!
But it had sure been annoying all day checking and rechecking and getting 'not found' n stuff. I dun like it when things aren't the way they should be...
But aside from that, I was fairly productive today. Got all the current remaining songs (for a special secret project) sliced n diced save one. That last one's been a thorn in my side for a while now, 'cause I'm not sure which lyric bit I'm gonna use, which makes it impossible to snip it out yet. And man-o-man I did some KILLER edits! But now I have to get my arse in gear on what they are for. *work toil slog think brainstorm redo*
Well I got hosed this morning. Turns out my domain registration was 2 days overdue and I had no idea, since I'd not seen any reminder messages lately. I paid up right quick, but it's now many hours later and I still have no website up and no incoming emails. *le sigh* Sure hope DNS propagation picks everything back up like ASAP, cause this totally sucks. Like worse than the couple of times I've switched hosting providers.
Technically I can get to the site itself via a direct IP addy, but that doesn't help with email. But anywhere out there I've linked to content that I have stored, it's totally jacked. And I'm not taking the time to go out there and fix it all, bleah. All I can really do is grumble to myself until everything is back to normal.
In terms of live conversations -- Wellllll, never on purpose, like to be mean or anything. But on occasion accidentally, when I was unaware the other person didn't know. It's like these days you have to always check first before you say anything, which is easy to forget in the midst of a passionate discussion.
I guess at least a few times I've heard or saw something before I wanted to find out. But if your friends slip up, easy to forgive. Mostly these days it's because of certain TV shows being preview-happy. I mean for crying out loud, you don't need to show snips of the entire show minutes before you even see it! Just let me watch and I'll find out on my own, thank you very much. OK, some of it is due to time-shifting and seeing commercials for the next week's show before I've watched the tape of this week's.
What shocks me is that I never found about 6th Sense before I saw it, and I was late to the party. How the hell was I able to avoid that? Got lucky, apparently.
In terms of things posted online -- I try and not search on certain topics if I'm not current. So far on LJ I've not seen anything out of turn. People have been really polite with their cuts.
So overall, I'm not too worried. If it happens, it happens. Not gonna die over it.
So I dug up one of my older laptops that can't do much more than hit the web. I'm going blind trying to use the 'good machine' thru the television, UGH. It's blurry and I can't read the tiny type from this distance. But at least for now when the TV is in use I can do some basic things on this POS.
Was diggin on a laptop outlet site and I think I found an option that might work, and not affect money available for Christmas shopping. Only question is can I get it to arrive before I get on the plane? *has fingers crossed* It just sucks that I have to do this *now*. I really wanted to wait a few more months and save up. But desperate times call for desperate measures. I simply CANNOT be out of commission like this for an extended period of time, and certainly not when I travel.
What is it about my computing activities that kill laptops? I'm leaving a trail of maimed machinery in my wake every year or two. Whatever I get, it will be my 5th machine since August 2002.
For the second time in less than two years, my laptop screen has died on me. In Spring 2007, the death of my Thinkpad A31 prompted the purchase on eBay of the Inspiron 9300 that just crapped out on me tonight. All of a sudden, BLACK SCREEN!! I could see faint images of the programs I knew were open, so I thought I could subsist for now with a monitor plugged in. No go, I couldn't even get a whisper of an image on the external. So in a last ditch effort, I tried the SVideo cable to the TV. It's blurry and it sucks, but it's ALL I've got.
This is the WORST possible timing, as I need this machine to be working while at my grandmother's for the holidays in a week and a half. I don't know what I'm going to do. I am just sooo effin screwed right now. I'd planned on trying to get a better machine next year, but NOW was NOT the time! I really just wanna cry...
Mom is spending so much right now on my plane ticket, the hotel for all 3 of us, and Christmas in general. I simply can't ask for something this big only for me. (My specs are rather high because of Second Life and Photoshop, etc.)
I plan to finally go and snag people that I *do* know on here. Like I said before, can't guarantee that I'll be much of a poster, but ya never know. So if you discover my name and wonder why, rest assured that we have either spoken/interacted/known each other in some fashion, ever. I wouldn't just snag random strangers, that's just creepy!
But I may actually start in the morning, as it's late and I'mma gonna get to sleep now.
And while I'm on the subject of the Virgin Radio Classic Rock stream, I just have to say that I love this station. They dust off the REALLY buried tracks. I have certainly NEVER heard a U.S. radio station play Pink Floyd's 'Remember A Day', it just doesn't happen. And I happen to like pre-Dark Side PF. They'll play tracks from Free that AREN'T 'All Right Now'. OMG what a freakin concept! I get bored with hearing the same stuff all the time. When local radio tries to tease you with 'so n so coming next!', you can pretty much guess what they'll play. More often than not I tend to turn off the radio and just play stuff from my own collection, because then I can hear those deep songs that never get airplay.
It's sort of what I was doing way back when with my pseudo-college radio show, 'Hidden Treasures'. I'd play whatever I felt like music-wise, combined with comedy tracks as well. As far as I'm concerned, it actually worked! Once I got in the groove with my themed shows, I was unstoppable. I really miss those days, it was fun. Maybe my sets were a bit limited by my not super-huge collection, but I did manage to cover a bit of ground.
P.S. Though I have noticed the VRCR stream plays an enormous amount of Public Service-type pro-condom messages, in practically every break. I may have to change to another station on my SL store land. Kinda doubt my customers are all that interested in hearing about that while they are shopping for virtual clothing.
